I made a cake

And managed to do some revision too! Lucky me!

Thankyou everyone who donated some money to the Big C coffee morning for their slice :)

10 ways to cut onions without crying

Listed in order of effectiveness from "Big boys don't cry" to "Might as well rub the damned onion in your eye".

1. Get someone else to do it

2. Wear onion goggles.

3. Use a grid chopper/ food processor

4. Freeze the onion first (makes it harder to chop though!)

5. Close your eyes (and lose your fingers)

6. Leave the root on the onion

7. Chop beneath an open window

8. Run the onion under water first

9. Put any of the following in your mouth: A match, a piece of bread, a teaspoon, half a lemon

10. Put the brown onion skin on your head

And for the sake of an alternative ending- 10. Man up.

I don't drink, but this is cool

In Italy it is common to serve neat Sambuca with some floating coffee beans dropped on it: it is called Sambuca con mosca (literally, "Sambuca with flies"). The beans are there as an ornament, but they can be chewed to increase the taste of anise. It is usually served in restaurants with 3 coffee beans and is said that the beans represent: health, happiness, and prosperity. The story goes that if you order Sambuca con mosca in an Italian restaurant and the bartender serves it with only two beans, that means that the bartender is silently giving you notice that there is a mob hit about to happen in the joint and that you should quickly enjoy your Sambuca and split.

My latest aquisition-

On Friday I gave in to temptation (and better use of my EMA) and bought myself a Nordic ware cake tin in the shape of these exciting little cars. Now, I don't know any car-mad lads, but these are just irresistibly cute, and can be personalised to even the prettiest princess’s taste :) I haven't made any yet, but the second I can get to the pick'a'mix garage for some vital parts, these little treats'll be popping up all over the place!

Welcome!

Jumping on the recent bandwagon of e-blogging, I've decided to document all my thoughts on my hobby: cooking!

I expect it'll be a little collection of recipes that catch my eye, trivia, my cooking conquests, and other releated jibber-jabber.

Enjoy :)
